The way to Renovate an Old Closet to Make a Bookshelf

Many homes lack a decent amount of cupboards, but at times the opposite is true. As opposed to let an unnecessary closet sit vacant, make it to your bookshelf to utilize the space efficiently. With all cabinet outlines removed, including the door, hardware and rod, the interior walls eventually become the bookcase sides for the open, exposed built-in-style shelving unit. Let the recessed region’s thickness dictate your shelves’ thickness. Also, look at turning a deep cabinet to your walk-in desk nook with hutch-like shelves, or a mini home office.

Remove a standard closet door by unscrewing its hinges from the frame. Patch up the hinge depressions and holes in the frame’s molding utilizing wood filler and a putty knife.

Look carefully at the hardware and track if the closet door rolls or slides on a track program. You may have to lift the door from a bottom monitor, or use your finger to depress the hardware grab which rides an upper monitor. In case you’ve got a bifold door which operates on a pivot, open the door fully. Grip both folded sections. Lift it from the lower monitor. Angle it forwards. Lower it from the top track.

Unscrew a top and lower track to remove them. Patch the top holes, using wood filler or joint compound and a putty knife.

Cover floor holes by screwing a transition strip which roughly matches your flooring across the span.

Lift the closet rod off the U-shaped mounts. Unscrew the mounts from the walls.

Remove the top closet shelf or put it in position among the bookshelf’s shelves. Unscrew and remove the shelf supports, if you remove the shelf.

Patch the screw holes left by the mounts and any removed supports, using joint compound. Sand all patched areas smooth, using fine-grit sandpaper.

Pull the patched areas, using paint that matches the frame or walls. Instead — or in case you can not match the color — paint the frame, recessed inside walls and ceiling white or a light color that complements your decor for eye accent.

Insert adjustable shelving rails or strips, or fixed mounts for your bookcase shelves. Instead, set up your shelves and mini-office.
