It’s possible to transform a concrete slab porch floor to a decorative focal point with a couple painting supplies invented for use on concrete and a specific plan. The resulting surface is attractive, durable and easy to maintain. Concrete paint creates a strong, opaque surface end you may use plain or you could enhance it using a simple design such as edge stripes in a contrasting color. When properly sealed, concrete paint holds up for many years of use while adding pleasure and value to your house.
Produce a drawing at the desirable design for the surface of the concrete slab porch. The design might be a single colour, or a single color with contrasting edge stripes, possibly imitating a carpet. It might also be any easy design applied upon a background color. A slightly lighter background color than the applied color helps to emphasize the design.
Prepare the surface you intend to paint by giving it a thorough cleaning. Because it’s immune, concrete traps dirt, oil and grease. Use a push broom to sweep away all loose debris prior to having a scraper or a wire brush to loosen stubborn surface dirt or paint. Wash down the surface using a hose or a leased pressure washer. Apply plastic sheeting on all adjacent vertical surfaces and mask all of seams in the edges of the porch floor with painter’s tape.
Brush a concrete cleaner on the surface with a stiff-bristle push broom. Follow the program directions on the cleaner container; enable the cleaner to penetrate the concrete surface, loosening any remaining dirt and grease. Moisture beneath the concrete surface may cause paint to blister and peel, so sufficient drying time is significant to the process.
Apply a coat of concrete primer paint, using a 6-inch roller in the borders, and an 18-inch roller on larger open areas. Use the 2-inch paintbrush to touch up any hard-to-reach areas. The primer creates a seal on the concrete, making the paint more resistant to water damage. The primer needs to dry for six to eight hours to ensure that the very first coat of concrete paint adheres successfully.
Paint a first coat of high-quality concrete paint in the colour of your choice to the big areas of the concrete surface using the telescoping-handle paint roller. If you’re including stripes of a contrasting color on the boundaries, mask those areas using painter’s tape first. Allow the paint to dry completely, according to the directions furnished by the paint manufacturer. Apply the contrasting colors to any unseen stripe areas, using the more compact roller as well as the long-handled paintbrushes, if necessary. Allow this first coat of paint to dry for 24 hours.
Apply a second coat of concrete paint to the large surface and to some stripes. Allow it to dry for at least 24 hours prior to removing the painter’s tape defining the stripes, if applicable.
Draw a simple design on the background color with chalk, and paint it using contrasting concrete paint colors as an alternative. Use two coats, if necessary, for coverage. This tier of color must be totally dry prior to applying the sealer coat. You can also apply a border trim using a precut roller using the design already partnered to it which moves the repeated design where applied. You can take advantage of this type of roller to add a repeating vine decoration, by way of example, along the edge of the concrete.
Apply a concrete-paint seal coat to the entire surface after painting and adding any cosmetic paint accents. Permit this last layer to dry completely, according to the manufacturer’s directions. Keep people away from the concrete for around three days to let it completely heal.
